Jotron supplies full VHF coverage for Angola’s Luanda FIR
As part of a major modernization of Angola’s air navigation infrastructure, Jotron has successfully completed the supply and installation of a comprehensive VHF radio communication system for the Luanda Flight Information Region (FIR). The project was carried out under the framework of an agreement signed with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Empresa Nacional de Navegação Aérea (ENNA) in January 2024.

Over the course of just 14 months, Jotron effectively led the design, production, installation, and commissioning of a fully integrated, nationwide network of VHF radio communication system in Angola.
These advancements were designed to significantly enhance safety and efficiency in Angolan airspace, and to ensure seamless and secure communication between air traffic controllers and pilots.
This turnkey project involved the establishment of seven new enroute radio sites and the upgrade of six existing ones. Each site was fully equipped with Jotron’s state-of-the-art VHF radio systems, communication shelters, antenna masts, solar power systems, backup generators, perimeter fencing, and security infrastructure. To ensure a smooth and efficient transition, the new VHF communication system was seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure at the Luanda Area Control Centre (ACC), maintaining full compatibility with ENNA’s current systems.
Following live traffic testing, coverage verification, and collaboration among multiple stakeholders, Jotron’s VHF radio system was formally accepted with the Global Site Acceptance Test (GSAT), held in Luanda on March 12 of this year. This marks the formal completion of a critical phase in Angola’s airspace transformation.
- We are honoured to have been awarded this contract and proud to support ICAO, ENNA and Angola, said Stig Hugo Svendsen, Project Manager at Jotron. - This project reflects Jotron’s strong commitment to providing innovative and reliable technology, supporting professional execution, and upholding the highest standards of aviation safety.
