We are proud to introduce the SKIPPER SL1300 SATLOG, a next generation of Speed and Distance Measuring Equipment (SDME) built to meet the navigation, cyber security and operational demands of modern shipping.

Building on a proven foundation

The SL1300 succeeds the well-established SKIPPER SL1200 SATLOG, an IMO-compliant navigation speed log that has been deployed worldwide as a three-axis Speed Over Ground (SOG) navigation system, delivering longitudinal and transverse vessel motion data for safe navigation and docking.

Why we rebuilt the platform

SKIPPER introduced satellite-based speed log technology in 2017, building on the company's longer-standing expertise in Doppler/Acoustic and Electromagnetic Speed Logs. As the antenna platform developed in partnership with Kongsberg Seatex approached end-of-life, we saw an opportunity to rethink the architecture from the ground up for the next generation of satellite speed logs.

Drawing on Jotron Group expertise, not an outside partnership

Rather than seeking an external partner, we turned to AD Navigation – a fellow Jotron Group company, acquired by Jotron in 2025 and now a fully owned subsidiary. AD Navigation has built a strong reputation in GNSS navigation, sensor fusion technology and portable pilot navigation systems for demanding maritime environments.

AD Navigation's positioning technology has been validated through real-world jamming and spoofing testing conducted with the Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) at Andøya Space Center since 2021. This testing underscores why resilient, multi-layered positioning is essential as GNSS interference becomes more common in coastal and port waters worldwide.

The SL1300 is the first product to bring this in-house GNSS expertise directly into the SKIPPER speed log line.

Inside the SL1300

At the heart of the system is a next-generation dual GNSS antenna architecture that tracks multiple frequency bands simultaneously across the world's major satellite navigation constellations – GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou. Combining frequency diversity with multi-constellation processing and advanced validation techniques, the SL1300 delivers increased robustness against signal degradation, interference and spoofing attempts.

The SL1300 is designed to work seamlessly with the SKIPPER Integrated Navigation System (INS) platform, creating a complete navigation ecosystem rather than a standalone sensor.

What operators gain

Combined with the latest generation INS control unit, operators gain access to:

  • Enhanced navigation situational awareness
  • Advanced timing and position validation capabilities
  • Cyber-security focused system architecture
  • Simplified software maintenance and lifecycle management
  • Portal-based update distribution
  • Remote health monitoring and status reporting
  • Improved serviceability and fleet support

Engineered for what is next

The SL1300 is more than a successor to the SL1200 – it combines resilient GNSS positioning, cyber-secure system design and digital lifecycle management in a single platform. As the maritime industry faces growing GNSS interference, cyber threats and operational complexity, the SL1300 is designed for today's requirements and tomorrow's e-navigation and integrated-bridge demands.

The SL1300 reflects Jotron's continued commitment to delivering innovative, reliable and resilient navigation technologies that support safer, more efficient maritime operations worldwide.
